The weather's been quite warm the last few days - well, "warm" compared to what it was like before that, anyway - and the water pipes at home thawed out yesterday! That's the first time since i got back to Kabul a couple of weeks ago.
It's amazing how much of a novelty it is to have water coming out of the taps again! Most of my life - but certainly not all of it - i've lived in houses with running water. Not always hot water, but cold water's better than no water. Now, though, after a couple of weeks without that luxury - a luxury that's only shared by about half the world's population - it feels like i've been without it all my life!
The novelty'll wear off, of course - probably at about the same time as the weather gets cold and the pipes freeze again!
