Sick and Cold
Friday, December 22nd 2006

I've been in England for nearly a week now, and i've been sick as a dog for pretty much the whole time i've been here. Kinda flu-like shit. Nasty cough, dizzy, and just generally buggered. I never get this sick!

I reckon my body - and my lungs in particular - is probably detoxing after 3 months in filthy dusty Kabul. Whatever it is, i reckon i should be careful not to stay there too long - cos it will almost certainly have a seriously detrimental long term effect on my health.

And the weather in England's been bloody freezing! It's been colder than it was during the whole of the year i was here from Feb 04 to the end of Jan 05. It feels a lot colder here than the same temperatures did in Kabul, too - because it's so humid. Kabul's quite dry and you don't feel the cold so much when it's dry (which i'd never realised before, because i'd never experienced it).

On top of it all, i'm having to get used to being cramped up in my mum's tiny flat again - i've seriously seen bigger matchboxes!

Apart from all that though, i'm really glad to be here. It's so nice to be out of Kabul and have a break from work - although it's not a total break, there's a few things i need to do, that i'm kinda ignoring... And it's great to see my family again - even though i've been too sick to do anything much.

I feel a little bit better today though. So i guess now i'll go out into the cold and start feeling worse again!
